Wind causes blowdowns in Issaquah Alps, many trails closed
Dec 12, 2003 – A major windstorm last week damaged low-elevation trails along the I-90 corridor. WTA crews are working diligently to clear the debris as quickly as possible, but many popular trails will be unhikable this weekend and maybe for the rest of the year.

The Rattlesnake Ledges Trail is passable but there is still some debris and downed trees on the trail, so hike with extreme caution.

On Tiger Mountain, WTA crews have cleared the Around the Lake, Bus and West Tiger #3 Trails of downed trees, and they are open to hikers. However, some trails are closed, and many have yet to be evaluated, so please hike with caution. The City of Issaquah staff posted Trail Closure signs on the following trails at Tiger Mountain: Adventure Trail, Section Line Trail, Poo Poo Point Trail, KeesBig Tree Trail, and Swamp Trail. There are also signs posted at the High Point Trailhead notifying folks of the trail closures. Issaquah Parks Maintenance staff tentatively plan to start work on removing trees on the Brink and Nook Trails next week.

The Issaquah Alps Trails Club has been hard at work on the Squak Mountain trails and have cleared significant sections of trails. The East Ridge Trail was particularly hard hit by the blast of winds and work to clear the blowdowns is expected to begin next week. Stay tuned to www.wta.org for further updates.
