Nat'l Trails Day on the Boundary Trail at Mount Rainier. Last year was the first time in a long time that this trail saw some much-needed maintenance. With your help we will continue to work on removing downed logs, repairing the tread and other maintenance needs to get this trail back to good hiking condition. Keep in mind that with the high snow pack this year, we may not be able to access this trail on June 7. In that case, we will notify you by e-mail to cancel or change the location.

Mt. Rainier National Park is Washington's oldest national park, celebrating its' centennial in 1999. It is located in the center of the Cascade Range and the center of the state. The park is dominated by the 14,410' Mt. Rainier, one of Washington's five volcanoes. The park contains 260 miles of trails through the state's greatest old growth stands of Douglas fir, cedar, hemlock, and spruce. The park receives heavy visitor traffic during the summer. Due to its height and location the park receives heavy precipitation, especially in the winter months. The grandeur of the park must be experienced to be fully appreciated.

Driving directions:
From the Seattle area drive south on State Highway 167 (Renton to Auburn and points south). Before Puyallup turn east on State Highway 410 toward Sumner. Beyond the exit for Sumner and as you enter the town of Buckley turn south (right) onto State Highway 165, which takes you through the quaint towns of Wilkeson and Carbonado. Before the Park boundary, take a fork to the left, onto the Fairfax Forest Preserve Road leading to the Carbon River entrance. You want to avoid staying on SH 165, or you will end up at Mowich Lake. (Driving time from Seattle: less than 2 hours.) We will have made arrangements for you to get into the Park without paying the entry fee.
