Squak Mountain Bus Hike
(Note that bus schedule links are for weekends.)
From downtown Seattle, take the Sound Transit 554
Express toward
Issaquah. Get off at the Eastgate Park & Ride and transfer to
the Metro
271. You can get off at Front St. & Newport Way. Take the paved
Squak Mountain Access Trail from the intersection of Wildwood Rd and
Newport Way. Continue on the Access Trail about 2 miles to the start of
the East
Ridge Trail. Hike up the East Ridge and after 1.7 miles take a right on
East Side Trail C5 toward the waterfall. Past the waterfall, turn left
on the C4 Trail up to
the Central Peak. Then descend the Summit Trail C6 to loop back
down to the East Ridge Trail.
Definitely bring a map, since the maze of
trails as Squak Mountain State Park will get you lost quickly: Green
Trails 203S covers all of
Cougar and Squak Mountains. My rough estimate is that the entire
loop, including the walk on the access road, is no more than 10 miles.
Return buses leave from Newport & Sunset Way every half hour on
Saturdays until 5:30. After that, and on Sundays the return buses leave
every hour. Make sure you print out schedule and bring it will you so
you aren't stranded!
